Model Contract

A model contract is a template agreement that can be replicated or used as a starting point for negotiations over large-scale investments.

Note that the International Bar Association's Model Mining Development Agreement is not a template agreement per say, but rather a collection of examples from existing mine development agreements and other materials that are designed to help negotiators and drafters by stimulating them to think about some of the difficult issues of legality, fairness, and balance presented by large-scale investment.

The IISD's Model Investment Contract for Farmland and Water similarly provides a list of model provisions along with a description of each provision that can assist government negotiators and drafters.
